OLD kettles, hair dryers and other unwanted electrical items will be collected from thousands of Conwy residents.
Crest Co-operative has teamed up with Conwy County Borough Council, in a bid to save unwanted small electrical goods from landfill. Pink recycling bags will be delivered to 50, 000 homes across the county in December, as part of the Council’s ‘Recycle More’ service.
A team of staff at recycling company Crest Co-operative will test the items and re-sell them to the community at low prices. The social enterprise operates two community stores in Llandudno Junction and Colwyn Bay, selling re-claimed electrical and household items.
Crest Co-operative has recently opened the Crest Re-use centre in Mochdre. Electrical items are repaired and re-used. If items are unfit for re-sale parts will be re-used for electrical repairs.
Old mobile phones and computers, are just some of the items that will be collected from Conwy residents every two weeks. Items do not have to be in working order.
Social enterprise Crest Co-operative creates work placements for Conwy and Denbighshire’s unemployed and adults with learning disabilities.
Cllr Mike Priestley, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “Working with Crest Co-operative is making it even easier for Conwy residents to recycle and re-use their unwanted small electrical goods. In the past these items may have ended up in landfill.
“The important thing about this recycling scheme is that it is creating employment for local people.”
Crest Co-operative currently operate textile and media collections as part of the council recycling scheme. Purple and clear bags are already delivered to thousands of residents.
Rod Williams, Senior Operations Manager at Crest Co-operative, said: “This is the third recycling service that Crest Co-operative will be operating on behalf of Conwy County Borough Council. We are delighted to be launching another scheme and we hope to save tonnes of unwanted electrical goods from landfill.
“At our new re-use centre in Mochdre we are working with local businesses. We hope to encourage local people and businesses across the county to reduce their carbon footprint.”

I left a pink bag with a microwave out for collection on 09/07/2020 which wasnt collected. I wonder if another tenant brought it in aftr the green recycling had been collected? Roughly what time would you have collected please, so I know for the 23/07/20 collection. LL29 8NA.
