Every day, people in our community go hungry. The causes of their desperation include benefit delays, redundancy, illness, sudden unexpected bills and much more besides. Most of us are just a short step away from being in the same situation. One stroke of bad luck is all it takes.
Here at Crest we’re trying to make a difference to our community by offering a FoodShare scheme to help those in need.
As well as feeding our community, we’re committed to reducing food waste. Globally, almost a third of all food produced goes to waste. By collecting surplus food from various food outlets in our local area, we’re helping to cut food waste. Imagine the impact if every community in the world came together to do the same.

We don’t ask for any documentation or proof of receipt of benefits to make use of our FoodShare scheme. We understand the current cost of living crisis is affecting us all and we’re doing our absolute best to help our ever struggling community.
Work with us
If you’re a local food outlet, supplier, or supermarket, we can collect food from you at regular arranged times. Which will help you reduce your costs and prevent edible food being wasted.
But above all, you will be helping your local community.

Volunteer
By volunteering to work with us within our FoodShare scheme you’ll enable us to expand the service, helping more people and making a bigger difference within our community.
We’re always looking for enthusiastic volunteers. If you’re interested in volunteering, give us a call on 01492 353194

Donate
Right now, we collect as much food as we can get our hands on directly from local supermarkets and shops, but we could really use your help as well.
Our FoodShare scheme relies completely on the goodwill, compassion and generosity of our local community. Donations of food and hygiene products come in from local businesses and members of the general public. At Crest, we subsidise our FoodShare scheme with funds from our charitable work, to make up the varied selection of products our customers so desperately need. But demand for the FoodShare scheme in our community is soaring.
So we need support from as many sources as possible. Including you.
You can donate money to support our FoodShare scheme at any of our shops listed at the bottom of the page. We’d also like donations of products from the public and local businesses.
Please bring items like:
- Tinned meat and fish
- Tinned vegetables
- Pulses
- Rice
- Pasta
- Cereals
- Biscuits
- UHT Milk
- Baby products
- Toiletries
Bring in anything you can. Whether you can spare a single tin of soup or a box packed full of food, every single bit helps. We will be extremely grateful for your donation.
But nowhere near as thankful as the final recipients.

Making Foodshare sustainable
The Happitat Project
Recognising that the need for our Foodshare project is only growing as more families are at risk of food and hygiene poverty, we have partnered with the National Lottery’s Community Fund team to make the Foodshare sustainable for the future.
Utilising National Lottery grant funding our workshop is saving more Pre-loved furniture from landfill, re-purposing the items for resale in our community shops.
The income generated from the sale of these items goes towards keeping the Foodshare shelves stocked for those in need across our community.
We are working to make the Foodshare sustainable for the future, to be able to keep providing this incredible service to those in need and the National Lottery is enabling us to do that.
