Chris Potter joined Crest as a volunteer back in the second half of 2019 and helps on Reception. With his wealth of experience he is also helping set up online selling as a platform in the future via eBay and Facebook. A well travelled man, Chris there’s very little Chris hasn’t done in his work life. Here’s what he had to say about why he’s chosen to volunteer at Crest Co-operative and what he does in his spare time!
Hi Chris, thanks for agreeing to be on our Volunteer Q&A sessions, and, of course, for being a big part of our Crest family. How long have you volunteered at Crest Co-operative?
Chris: I joined in September last year but it was on an ad-hoc basis around work. I’m now out of work and since lockdown I’m doing a lot more volunteering – I needed to get out of the house!
What’s the best thing about volunteering at Crest?
Chris: Crest has been a little place in my heart for some time – I’m an avid charity shopper and this place has always been one of my go-to places, even when the shop was in Llandudno. I love the atmosphere here, and it’s great because you can see first hand the ambition you have here.
Can you describe yourself in three words?
Chris: Yes, no and maybe? (laughs) Friendly, adventurous and dependable.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Chris: Music is my main motivation outside of work. I’m self taught playing both the piano and the guitar. I love doing my own mixes. I also do my own music productions and am involved in amateur dramatics on the technical side which includes looking after the sound and special effects.
Do you have a favourite member of staff and/or volunteer that you like to work with?
Chris: That would be unfair to say! (laughs) I have a great working relationship with all the Admin team in the brief time I’ve worked with them. I’m looking forward to working closer with the Retail team and making some acquaintances there.
Any funny stories inside or outside of Crest that you want to mention?
Chris: Nothing specifically but you do sometimes get some strange and bizarre requests of collections of items which gives us a little giggle! (laughs)
Last question, why do you volunteer?
Chris: I volunteer because it’s a great opportunity to give back to the community. I’m lucky enough to be in a position in my life now where I have a lot of commercial experience that I want to use in the third sector. Crest is an organisation that I’ve followed for a long time so I’m happy to help here.
