YOUNG adults who are struggling to secure employment have
been given a helping hand.
Non-profit recycling company Crest Co-operative launched the Jobs Growth Wales project last week. Work placements are available for Conwy and Denbighshire residents between the ages of 16-24, who have faced barriers when trying to secure permanent job roles in the local community.
The scheme has been funded by the Welsh Government and the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) and has created full-time minimum wage job roles for five young adults. Crest Co-operative is now recruiting for a further eight young adults, who will be given work experience for 25 hours a week, for a period of 26 weeks.
The work experience placements are based at Crest Co-operative’s Llandudno Junction head office.
Leighton Andrews, Minister for Education and Skills, said: “The programme will cater for those who are job ready but have had difficulty securing employment. It will also provide a more supportive environment, for those who need it, to access and make the most of this opportunity to help them progress to sustainable employment.
“It will provide the work experience valued so highly by employers,
which so many young people of differing skills and abilities find to be the
most significant barrier to securing that first step into employment,” he
added.
Chris Petch, 22, from Deganwy joined the Crest Co-operative team this
week, as an Ebay administrator. He said: “I was working full time, but the job
was seasonal, so my hours were cut. I visited the Careers Wales website and
found out about the Jobs Growth Wales job opportunity and applied. I am looking
forward to gaining work experience in an office environment.”
Are you age between 16-24 years? Can you commit 25 hours per week for 26
weeks? Work placements are on offer for young adults who would like to gain
experience working as support workers, in retail, as van assistants and in
Crest’s workshop. If you are currently on a back to work programme you are not
