After delivering the Bulky Waste service on behalf of Conwy County Borough Council for the previous 11 years, Crest will be ending its delivery of this service and handing it over to Conwy’s new service provider.
Crest was informed that Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) had decided to undertake a series of changes to the Bulky Waste service and undertake a tender process to appoint a contractor moving forward.
Having reviewed the changes implemented by the local authority Crest decided that this service no longer met its values and objectives as a re-use organisation and did not appear to be one which Crest could ensure would be sustainable for the future. Possibly risking the ongoing deliverability of the charitable objectives of the organisation in the future. Given this, Crest decided not to tender to continue delivering this service.
As such, Crest will end its delivery of this service on July 31st.
Reflecting on the service, Rod Williams, Managing Director of Crest said:
“Following the closure of Conwy Furniture Reclaim Conwy Council came to Crest to ask us to step into the breach and continue to deliver on this valued service for local residents.
“We didn’t miss a beat and from that day to this have worked to ensure that the Bulky Waste service was delivered to the highest possible standards. In the last year alone, Crest has carried out over 5,700 individual Bulky Waste collections and saved more than 35 Tonnes of waste from landfill.
“I would like to wish Conwy Council and the new waste collector the very best of luck in delivering this service moving forward. We will continue to work with Conwy Council on a range of other services to continue to promote social inclusion, volunteer and work placement opportunities and re-use across Conwy County.”
