GOOD causes across Conwy have benefited from a Crest Co-operative cash boost.
Non-profit recycling company Crest Co-operative, awarded £2283.92 to community groups. Crest Community Fund was launched earlier this year, in a bid to help non-profit projects, which are struggling to fund their work in the community.
A cheque presentation took place at Crest’s Llandudno Junction based head office on Friday, August 8. Llandudno homeless drop-in centre, Hope Restored, received £500, to provide blankets, sleeping bags, warm clothing and other essentials for their service users. Brenda Hewitt from Hope Restored said: “It’s wonderful
that our work in the community has been recognised. We will offer the items that we purchase to those in need or people who are sleeping rough. Hope Restored is the only group offering these services to homeless people in Llandudno.
“At the moment we rely on individual donations from the church and small gifts and donations from individuals. Without funds we are unable to provide the basic necessities of life for homeless people in the area.” In 2012-2013 Crest Co-operative will be injecting £10, 000 back into the local community. Grants will be awarded on four occasions during the year. Crest has been established since 1998 and has always worked to benefit the Conwy community. The social enterprise operates various recycling enterprises in the county, which create work opportunities for Conwy’s unemployed and adults with learning disabilities.
Thanks to Crest Community Fund, Llandudno Multi Disability football club have received funds to purchase tracksuits for their team. Llysfaen Village Hall scooped £400 to purchase bowls equipment for community use. Children from Cylch Meithrin Maelgwn have been awarded £500, to purchase new IT equipment and Pebels Residents’ Association, Pensarn, scooped £484 to install a new bike rack on the promenade.
Sharon Jones, director of Crest Co-operative, said: “One of Crest’s core aims is to make our community a better place. We have committed £10,000 of our surplus profits to support a minimum of 20 of Conwy’s good causes in 2012-2013. The funds will be used to improve the lives of local people.
