Llinos Hughes volunteers in our café but also on occasion helps with our clients with learning difficulties and even in retail! She makes a good bacon sandwich and has a heart of gold. Here’s what she had to say about her time at Crest Co-operative!
Thanks for giving us this interview and as always, thanks for all your time volunteering. How long have you volunteered at Crest Co-operative?
Llinos: My first day here was actually St David’s Day, so around seven months, it feels like it’s been a lot longer!
What’s the best thing about volunteering at Crest?
Llinos: Probably working alongside our clients with learning difficulties – I love it! They make my day; they make me smile, make me laugh, it’s just the best!
Can you describe yourself in three words?
Llinos: Approachable, reliable and adaptable!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Llinos: I love to play on my XBox One, take my dog for walks, spend time with my son and spend time with my family!
Do you have a favourite member of staff and/or volunteer that you like to work with?
Llinos: No! That would be like opening a box of chocolates and choosing my favourite! Everyone is so nice and it’s such a friendly environment.
Any funny stories inside or outside of Crest that you want to mention?
Llinos: There’s so many funny stories but many would be too rude to repeat!! But one story that does come to mind was when our Volunteer Co-ordinator John came in for his lunch one day. He always has his phone with him on his break but one day it broke and he just looked completely lost! It was like one of those movie moments when someone sits at a window thinking on a rainy day with sad music in the background! Lowri (who works in the café) and I were just laughing because it was so funny!
Last question, why do you volunteer?
Llinos: When I originally joined Crest it was because I wanted to gain new skills and improve my confidence and help find a job. But now I volunteer because I want to. I come in and I just love it. I wouldn’t change for the world. And no day is the same!!
