Crest Co-operative have recently been working directly with Llanfairfechan Food Bank. The local food bank helps families and individuals in crisis by providing supplies of food donated by the public, and Crest have also donated items to one particular family who were in need of a sofa. Crest have also been helping out at the Food Bank by moving and erecting shelving to create additional space for the expanding area where the food is stored.
Councillor Penny Andow, who represents the food bank along with a team of volunteers, said “Llanfairfechan Food Bank are delighted to be working in partnership with Crest. This partnership is proving a huge success for the community of Llanfairfechan.”
In this partnership Crest Co-operative are open to helping out other families and individuals referred by Llanfairfechan Food Bank with white goods, furniture, bric-a-brac and toys for children. So far one family has been referred and approached, citing need of a sofa. The family, who would like to remain anonymous, also received bric-a-brac items and a cot. Along with the food supplied by Llanfairfechan Food Bank, this will help set this family up for an interim period at the very least. “Long may this valuable working partnership continue”, Penny added.
Jamie, a volunteer at Crest Co-operative who specialises in wood working and building, helped remove and reposition shelving used to store the food donated to the local food bank. This will now create additional space in what is an expanding food bank in Llanfairfechan. Rod Williams, Operations Manager at Crest, said “Crest are always open to support community initiatives that help people in need, so to have an opportunity to work with Llanfairfechan Food Bank was a real privilege. We have also utilised our skilled volunteers to help move and install shelving, which means the Food Bank can focus on providing and delivering food to families in need.
Rod added, “We have demonstrated that by working collaboratively and playing to our strengths, more can be achieved to help the people who need it most in our community. We hope this will encourage other like minded businesses to get involved and help out where they can, which will help strengthen our community”.
