Katie Baker is one of our newer trustees, having joined us towards in the middle of 2019. Her father used to be a manager in the organisation. Here’s what she has to say about Crest, her life and being a trustee!
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Katie: I’m a local solicitor living in Dyserth. I’m a keen cyclist and have participated in several local and national sportives. My husband and I have just signed up for Ride London 2020!
How long have you been a trustee at Crest?
Katie: I’m a fairly new trustee at Crest, having officially been appointed in July 2019. Prior to this I spent six months attending meetings and familiarising myself with Crest’s everyday operations.
What are your work experiences and background?
Katie: I’m a qualified solicitor-advocate, specialising in litigation. As such most days consist of dealing with disputes, health and safety matters and their related court proceedings. I have worked across Liverpool and the Wirral but currently work back in North Wales.
What do you do in your spare time?
Katie: I’ve recently become a mum so any spare time is currently in short supply. When I have a spare minute I enjoy walking our sheepdog, Mabel and spending time with family. We’re keen travellers and love nothing more than planning a trip to Asia. Unfortunately I think our holiday plans will need to be a little more conservative for the next few years.
Can you describe yourself in three words?
Katie: Determined, passionate and conscientious.
Have you got a message for the staff, volunteers and supporters of Crest?
Katie: The Crest staff, volunteers and supporters are truly one of a kind. Crest offers so much to the community whether it’s through it’s position as an employer, it’s re-use services or it’s projects promoting inclusivity. Everyone who contributes to Crest is therefore building a stronger, more resilient community.
And finally, why did you choose Crest as a place to be a trustee?
Katie: My Dad worked for Crest for a number of years before his sudden passing in 2013. As a result, I saw first-hand what a wonderful place Crest is and how it provides opportunities to so many diverse members of society. What Crest does is very hard to describe, simply because it’s so far-reaching and diverse. It not only provides employment and training opportunities for all but also helps to strengthen the local community by homing skills, providing reuse and recycling services making for a prosperous and close-knit community.
