Crest Co-operative is set to inject £10, 000 back into the local community.
Crest Community Fund was launched on Friday, July 13.
More than 40 community groups, councillors and politicians, gathered to celebrate the launch of the fund. Grants of up to £500 will be offered to community groups in the Conwy county during July 2012 – July 2013. The fund has been established to help projects with a focus on community based action and aims to improve the lives of local people.
Anna Glover, Marketing Manager at Crest Co-operative, said: “We launched the Crest Community Fund because we believe that there are Conwy based community groups, charities, schools and sports clubs, which are struggling to find funds to carry out their fantastic work. They may be finding it hard to purchase equipment or may be struggling to hold a community event.
“A successful 2011 has placed Crest Co-operative in a strong position. In the current economic climate it is wonderful to be in a position to offer support.”
To mark the launch of the fund children from Cylch Meithrin Maelgwn and Janet Finch-Saunders AM, released 20 balloons, each representing a £500 grant. They were joined by Crest Co-operative’s new mascot, who is already a hit with local school children. Pupils at schools across Llandudno have been taking part in a contest to name Crest’s mascot.
Miss Glover said: “The launch of the fund would not have been possible without the support that the team at Crest have had from the public over the last 14 years. Members of the public have always given huge support to Crest’s recycling enterprises.”
“Over the coming months we hope to see the difference that the fund is making in the Conwy community. I hope we will be holding a similar event this time next year, to showcase the work of the fund and meet some of the groups who have benefited,” she added.
During the launch Aberconwy Assembly Member Janet Finch-Saunders praised Crest Co-operative for making the Conwy community a better place.
Crest Co-operative is a non-profit organisation. The organisation collects unwanted textiles from 50, 000 residents in the Conwy county. The textiles are sold in Crest’s two community stores to create work placements for the unemployed and adults with learning disabilities.
