Nigel Hughes volunteers in our electrical recycling department in Llandudno Junction. He helps strip down washing machines, recycles faulty electrical items and is learning how to do some PAT testing. Here’s what he had to say about his time at Crest Co-operative!
Firstly, thanks for contributing to Crest Co-operative and helping your local community. How long have you worked at Crest Co-operative?
Nigel: Nearly a year, back in November.
What’s the best thing about volunteering at Crest?
Nigel: It keeps myself busy, it helps keep my work ethic going rather than becoming lazy.
Can you describe yourself in three words?
Nigel: *very long pause followed by laughter* Reliable… punctual… and hard-working… is that two words? (Interviewer: we’ll let him off!)
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Nigel: I like to make music and play darts. I’m always playing guitar and creating electrical music on the computer.
Do you have a favourite member of staff and/or volunteer that you like to work with?
Nigel: No favourites! I like everyone at Crest – there’s no one I dislike!
Any funny stories inside or outside of Crest that you want to mention?
Nigel: …no not really! I’m only here once a week. I’d laugh if someone fell over, but no one has around me yet!
Last question, why do you volunteer?
Nigel: (As mentioned earlier) It keeps me busy, but it’s also, it’s about helping our community, our environment and with recycling.
