Crest Co-operative revamps community stores
CREST CO-OPERATIVE is set to revamp its small chain of community shops.
Crest Co-operative will be expanding and re-locating its retail stores and work is already in progress. The plans include a make-over for Crest Furniture Reclaim on Douglas Road in Colwyn Bay. In 2016 the popular furniture shop will become a hub of social enterprise activity and the refurbishment will see an increase in work placements for the unemployed and local people with disabilities.
Crest’s sister store on Mostyn Broadway in Llandudno, will be re-locating to Crest Community Store on Ferry Farm Road in Llandudno Junction. Work is underway to extend the Llandudno Junction shop for January 2016 and the community store will offer a bigger range of furniture, clothing and electricals.
Sharon Jones, Chief Executive at Crest Co-operative, said: “The plans are exciting for our customers and our team. We are looking forward to welcoming shoppers to our refurbished and improved stores.
“I am delighted to announce that more employment and volunteer opportunities will be available at our Colwyn Bay and Llandudno Junction stores. Shoppers will see that the work is underway to refurbish our stores and they are open as usual.
“Throughout December we are inviting customers to join us at Crest Community Store, Mostyn Broadway, Llandudno, for a 25 per cent off re-location sale on re-claimed furniture and nearly new clothing,” she added.
Earlier this year Crest Co-operative opened a community hub on Ffordd Las in Llandundo, in partnership with housing association Cartrefi Conwy. The hub is a smaller version of Crest’s community stores and has already proved a hit with Llandudno residents.
Crest Co-operative will be continuing to hold pop up shops, which will help people in hard to reach rural communities, who are furnishing their homes on a budget.
Janet Finch-Saunders, AM for Aberconwy, praised Crest Co-operative’s pop up shops. She said: “What a brilliant idea they are, giving those who cannot travel to Llandudno and Colwyn Bay the opportunity to view and possibly purchase the low cost items provided by Crest, with the added benefit for those on low income of being able to pay by interest free instalments.
“Crest is such an innovative social enterprise, always striving to expand the services to the benefit of the community,” she added.
